I bought and installed a new WD 1TB HD as the secondary HD in my desktop computer. With the purchase of the HD I got a free download of Acronis True Image software (WD Edition). Using the Acronis software I successfully cloned my C drive (original HD in computer) to the new HD.
I have been trying - unsuccessfully so far - to clone my C drive to an external HD - a Western Digital Passport 500 GB -using the Acronis software. My goal is to have a drive that I can store offsite and use to boot my computer in the event both HD’s in my desktop computer fail.
I have tried doing this using the “Clone Disk” feature in the Acronis software. I have tried doing it both automatically and manually. Every time I have tried I have checked the contents of my WD Passport HD. It is completely empty.
As a note, every time I have tried it after the required reboot that occurs during the process, the operation status window appears. After a very short time the computer shuts down and reboots. Also, the Tasks Management window shows that every one of my attempts has been successful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I recently bought a WD SSD drive and wish to clone my HDD onto it. Going to the Western Digital site i downloaded the Acronis True Image WD Edition software. Unfortunately its asking for a serial number which i dont have, I was under the impression it would detect if a drive was WD and so shouldn't need one.
I am trying to clone my existing 500GB laptop drive to a new WD SSD Blue 500GB using Acronis True Image WD Edition that was downloaded from the WD site.
The WD SSD Dashboard can see my USB-attached WD SSD Blue 500GB.

However, when I try to run the Acronis WD Edition software it says “Acronis True Image WD Edition Installation Restricted - This product edition requires at least one Western Digital drive to be installed in your system”
How do I fix this?
UPDATE 1 :
I have temporarily bypassed this problem by plugging in one of my other WD external USB hard drives.
The Acronis software appears to be loading. Stay tuned…

I can now get through the source and destination disk selection process in Acronis. The cloning screen starts up and then I get a “You Must Reboot Computer to continue” message.
When I do that (3 times so far) It just reboots the computer. The Acronis cloning procedure does not restart. A check in Task Manager confirms that no Acronis process is running.

I finally gave up on Aronis.
I finally got it working by using the free edition of EaseUS ToDo Backup.
It didn’t work for me the first time because I didn’t read the instructions and I didn’t check the Advanced Settings (or something like that) and made sure that “Sector by sector clone” and “Optimize for SSD” boxes were checked.
Once I did that, the clone worked out fine, although it seemed to take forever, like 3 hours.
